Driving & flying at Easter

Those who plan on traveling by automobile during the Easter vacation
period can expect to encounter up to two times the usual amount of
traffic found on western Mexico's toll highways.
The Guadalajara-Tepic auto-pista usually registers 15,000 users daily
while some 30,000 vehicles are expected to use the highway during the
two-week vacation period beginning April 15, reports Capufe, the
regional highway authority.
To respond to the increased traffic, Capufe says additional Red Cross,
Green Cross and Green Angel services will be put on duty to provide
additional roadside assistance to motorists using toll highways in the
region. Moreover, portable bathrooms will be installed along some of
the major routes.
Motorists are warned that backups are to be expected around toll
booths, especially at the beginning and end of the vacation period.
At the city airport
Although the majority of air traffic is expected to head toward
Mexico's beach airports during the Easter break, Guadalajara's Miguel
Hidalgo Airport will feel its share of the holiday rush too.

Airport authorities expect the number of passengers using the airport
on a daily basis to double to approximately 10,500 daily from April 15
to April 30.
The Guadalajara airport averages some 9,000 flights per month while
during the 1999 Easter break it registered 10,622 flights.
Increased police presence and tourist assistance is planned for this
year's vacation period, but airport and government authorities warn
airport travelers to:
n watch their bags at all times
n not miss flights, lose documentation or leave carry-on bags on
planes
n not touch abandoned bags in the airport but report them to
authorities immediately
n not offer to transport materials for strangers
n not board airplanes with firearms, scissors, knives or containers
with gas under pressure
n only use authorized taxis to leave airports.
