Tournament Information

Welcome to the Second Annual CANTINA CUP fishing tournament hosted by Marina Cantina and Deli and Cirrus visual. The purpose of the tournament is to raise monies for Local Charities and to take advange of the great fishing in San Carlos in the month of October. This will be a Jackpot Fishing Tournament, entry fee is $50.00 per person and the Jackpot entry is $1,000.00 per boat team. This is a boat team event and you can have as many anglers per boat as you would like. Will have Roll calls at 10:00 AM, 1:00 PM, and at closing. Each boat will report their activity for that time period. Please note that Mexican law required valid permits for your boat and each angler. Agenda: The fishing tournament is Saturday October 7, and Sunday, October 8. The tournament will begin each day at 7:00 AM and end at 4:00 PM each day. On friday October 6, 2005, there is registration at the Marina Cantina and Deli from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM. The Diner and Awards Party will be at the Marina Cantina and Deli Sunday, October 8th starting at 6:00 PM. For your convenience we will attemp to make arrangement for the fuel docks at both marinas to be open from 7:00 AM to 6:00 PM during the tournament.
GENERAL RULES: International Angling Rules shall govern this tournament. This tournament is limited to Sailfish, Marlin, Dorado, Yellow Fin Tuna, and Wahoo. 1. Fishing hours: Saturday 7:00 AM - 4:00 PM Sunday 7:00 AM - 4:00 PM. Note: Scales will be open at 2:00 PM daily, All lines to be in at 6:00 PM each day. THE WEIGH STATION WILL CLOSE AT 6:00 PM BOTH DAYS (unless a fish is being fought at that time in which case the weigh station will remain open for that boat only).

Starting times relate to leaving Marina San Carlos outer harbor inside the red marker beacon, or Marina Real, inside the breakwater. We will have start boats at each marina and these  boats will be announced before the start of fishing each day. Any boat leaving ahead of the official starting time will be disqualified from the Tournament for that day. Closing hours relate to bringing ALL LINES IN unless you are fighting a fish. At closing time all lines must be brought in and you must proceed back and check-in with the weigh station.  

Any fish that is hooked up and report prior to closing time may be fought and counted if it  is successfully boated. This event must be reported to Tournament Control as soon as possible. The tournament radio will keep the official time. The Weigh Station will be located at Marina San Carlos to weigh-in fish to report released fish. You are responsible for checking in each day. Even if you do not have fish to report, you must check in by radio to Tournament control. Failure to report will result in disqualification of the day's catch. Report all fish to Tournament Control Channel VHF 63. Dorado are limited to 2 per angler per day. Yellow Fin tuna and Wahoo are limited to 5 per angler per day.

There is not a limit on released Marlin or Sailfish. All eligible fish weighed in will count 1 point per pound. Minimum weight to qualify is 16 pounds per fish. Fish under 16 pounds will not qualify, any Dorado, Yellow Fin Tuna, or Wahoo that weigh in between 25-34 pounds will receive an additional 30 points, any Dorado, Yellow Fin Tuna, or Wahoo that weigh in between 35-44 pounds receive an additional 50 points, and any Dorado, Yellow Fin Tuna, or Wahoo that weigh over 45 pounds will receive an additional 100 points.  Released billfish will count 150 points.

Sailfish and Marlin will be classified together as billfish. Any declared weighable Marlin brought in to weighs under 200 pounds will be disqualified and will receive 0 points. CATCH AND REALEASE. Any billfish that dies or you choose to weigh must be brought to the weigh station. You must declare before weighing wheter you choose to take the release points or weigh points. Billfish brought in for the release points become he property of the tournament. Each boat will be considered a team. Total points of all registered anglers on board will determine awards.

Release rules. Each registered boat will be given a camera. Only photos taken with this camera will be eligible. The following rules apply to the use of the camera. The first photo  taken with the camera will be of the stern of the boat, ensuring that the full registered name of the boat appears in the photo or a crewmember appears in the photo. When a billfish is being caught, you must call Tournament control and request a control number PRIOR TO BRINGING THE FISH ALONGSIDE THE BOAT. When that number is given, a crewmember  will show the appropriate number of fingers and the billfish in the photo. It it is necessary to take more than one photo to ensure accuracy, each photo MUST have a crewmember indication the same control number. Immediately upon release of the billfish, please report to Tournament Control.

Day 2 - A photo must be taken of the stern of the boat with a crewmember holding up or  displaying two (2)  fingers visible by the camera. All catches will be photographed in the same manner as the previous day. After the final day of fishing, all cameras are to be turned in at the weigh station. Failure to turn in a camera may result in disqualification of all fish caught. The Tournament committee reserves the right to replace a camera after the fisrt day of fishing.

Jackpot. For the Jackpot only fish will be limited to a maximum of 4 Dorado, 10 Yellow Fin Tuna and 10 Wahoo per BOAT/TEAM per day. The boat Jackpot will be divided as follows: 20% retained by the sponsor for donation to local charities. 5% retained for the Captain's prizes. Remaining 75% is divided as follows: 60% for 1st Place, 30% for 2nd Place, 10% for 3rd Place.  

Captain's prizes. With respect to the Captains' Award anglers cannot serve as captains or captains cannot serve as anglers (one cannot be registered in both positions). To be eligible  for the Captain's Award, it is necessary to be registered in that position. It is not a requirement to buy the Captain's package. 5% of the Jackpot monies to the Professional Captain whose name is listed on the entry form and whose BOAT/TEAM accumulates the most points as follows: 60% for 1st Place, 30% for 2nd Place, 10% for 3rd Place. Ties will be accepted, (Example: if 2 teams tie for 1st place, they will equally divide the toal of jackpots for 1st and 2nd place.)

Disputes. Any disputes, complaints, or deviations must be submitted in writing to a member of the Rules committee prior ro the next day's start of by 6:30 PM Sunday. Revision 8-3-2005.
